Still Life Fabric Collage

In this Stitch 'N Sip 6th series workshop, Margaret Grottenthaler, will show us how to make a beautifully textured embroidery sampler. Beginner stitchers will learn the basics of embroidery and will use their new skills to make a displayable art piece. Experienced stitchers will learn more complex stitches such as trellis, web, woven blanket stitch and bullion knots. You can make your sampler on a linen tea towel, muslin provided by Margaret or on your own fabric (linens and loose weaves are great). Hoops and thread will be provided but please bring small scissors with you.

Sip N Stitch #6 Embroidery Sampler 

An Embroidery Linen Workshop with Margaret Grottenthaler (AKA THE LAWLESS NEEDLE) - Add your personal embroidered touches to a lovely tea towel or napkin set. In this workshop you will create either 1. a modern monogram using a variety of simple stitches or 2. adorn your linens with stitched garden vegetables. If you are new to stitching, Margaret will guide you through the basics. We will be using dissolvable paper to make it easy to create your perfect design.

This workshop is suitable for both experienced and beginner stitchers. 

Sip N Stitch #5 Embroidered Modern Monograms and Garden Veggies


Learn new ways to embellish your paper project, led by Cabbagetown resident Margaret Grottenthaler (aka @lawlessneedle)
Try your hand at embroidery on paper and make your own holiday cards and gift tags. Margaret will show us how to sew on paper using simple embroidery stitching techniques. This project uses bits of felt, fabric, embroidery thread and markers.

Sip and Stitch #4 Embroidery on Paper

If you can hold a sewing needle and use scissors, then you can create a beautiful piece of textile art. You will learn to collage fabrics to create a botanical image of your own design, and to enhance your work with embroidery. All work in the course will be done by hand. Stitching is a wonderful meditative practice and it is an activity you can do while sitting on the beach!

Stitched Botanical Fabric Collage at Southampton Art School

In the Stitch ’N Sip 3rd series, you will use a variety of stitches to create your own original piece of textured embroidered art to celebrate the coming of spring! Learn how to transfer a design to your fabric (either your own or one you copy) and how to combine stitches to create something beautiful! You don’t need to have attended the Sip ‘N Stitch 1st or 2nd series to participate. No experience is required and all materials are provided.

Stitch and Sip Workshop #3

In this Stitch 'N Sip 2nd series embroidery workshop, local Cabbagetowner Margaret Grottenthaler, will show us how to make a beautifully textured embroidery sampler, making three dimensional stitches, such as turkey stitch, bullion knots and couching on embroidery hoops. Using embroidery threads, we will also experiment with other materials such as soutache braid, rat tail (not actual rat tails), and wool to create texture. No experience is required and all materials will be provided.
